At camping Houtum in Kasterlee we have several camping pitches for our guests. Think, for example, of a camping pitch for your own motorhome, folding trailer, caravan or tent, permanent chalet pitches and
rental tipi tents and accommodations. In short, those are quite a lot of different camping pitches.
One of the most frequently asked questions is: what exactly is the difference between the standard and comfort pitches? This is a very logical question, because this determines where you will be staying at the campsite. That is also why we wanted to write this article, so that we can provide our camping guests with more information.
At our campsite we have several fields with touring pitches. The fields consist of:
Type | The size | Number of camping pitches |
|---|---|---|
100 m² | 30 pitches | |
500 m² | half hardstanding and half grass | 6 pitches | |
125 m² | 11 pitches | |
Seasonal pitches | 100 m² | 10 pitches |
Tent field | no fixed dimensions | 10 pitches |
Standard camping pitches
One large field
On the field we have 30 camping pitches of 100 m².
Shared electricity points
The electricity points at the standard pitches are shared with the other neighbours. For every pitch there is a connection provided in the electricity point. This can be up to 20 metres away. Definitely something to keep in mind. They are all equipped with 10 amps, or just over 2000 watts.
Camping groups
We have one large field and this is ideal when you want to stay together with your camping group. The entire field is regularly rented out to one group. It is important to reserve this in time. Email directly to info@campinghoutum.be or fill in the form on our contactpagina.

Comfort camping pitches
Water and electricity
At every comfort pitch there is a connection where you can both take and discharge water and get electricity. They are all equipped with 10 amps, or just over 2000 watts.
Largest pitches
Our comfort pitches are the largest pitches we have. Camping pitches are becoming larger and larger, because caravans and motorhomes are becoming larger. Our comfort pitches are also regularly the first to be fully booked, which is why in 2024 we created additional comfort pitches. We now have eleven comfort camping pitches. This means you always have a minimum length of 15 metres.
Artificial grass
At every comfort pitch we have laid a large section of artificial grass. This way you always step out onto a dry surface, even after a rain shower. In addition, the artificial grass makes driving onto and leaving the pitch much easier and more comfortable.
Boundaries
All our comfort pitches are bordered by a hedge and a tree, so it is very clear where your pitch ends.

Seasonal campers too
Among the tourists who come camping for one night or a longer period, our permanent seasonal campers also stay on these fields. They may stay here during the season from 1 April up to and including 30 September October.
We charge €4.50 more per night for the comfort pitches, regardless of the season or any promotion. You get a larger pitch and direct electricity and water connections on your camping pitch.
The differences are clear, but are there also similarities between the fields? Yes, there certainly are. Read the shared points below.
Fantastic
Very friendly welcome, immediately received walking and
cycling maps. Very beautiful, clean pitches. Spotlessly clean sanitary facilities. We went on beautiful walks with an aperitif in the summer bar.
J. Parthoens
Top campsite for a great cycling holiday
Very friendly welcome upon arrival, after the dreadful journey through Antwerp. Beautiful comfort pitch with an extra grass mat - you do not even need to put down a groundsheet anymore. Beautiful sanitary facilities with a very efficient system using the card.

The similarities between the standard and comfort pitches are:
Campers
On all pitches, campers with a car and caravan, camper/motorhome or camping tent are welcome. A maximum of 6 people may stay overnight on each pitch. Are you staying with more people? No problem, then we book two pitches.
Choose your own pitch
Would you like to return to your favourite spot? Let us know your specific camping pitch so that we can reserve it for your visit. This is an option and we charge €6 per booking as a preferred-pitch fee. And then you can stay at your favourite spot again.
Pitch
All our camping pitches are attractive in terms of surface area. Another nice thing is that you can decide completely for yourself how you set up your stay. We only ask that you do not position yourself with your back facing the access road or the middle of a field. This way you can create a sunny side or, on the contrary, some shade. And above all, you can stay out of the wind. For us it is important that every guest has a pleasant holiday and this is an important part of that.
Sanitary facilities
Our sanitary facilities at Camping Houtum offer everything you need for a comfortable stay. You will find spacious, fully enclosed toilets, showers without time limits, a family shower with two shower heads, a baby area and adapted facilities for people with disabilities. You can also use washing-up sinks both indoors and outdoors, washing machines and dryers. In addition, all sanitary areas have underfloor heating, making it pleasantly warm even in winter.
Another advantage is that our sanitary facilities are always within walking distance, regardless of which field you are staying on - whether you are on a standard pitch or a comfort pitch. Come inside our sanitary facilities >>
Euro plug
To get electricity you need a Euro plug. Other plugs unfortunately do not fit in our electricity boxes. Have you forgotten the plug? No problem, because for a small deposit you can borrow a plug from us.
Barrier
Via the barrier in front of reception you can reach both the standard and comfort pitches. The barrier goes up whenever you want to leave, without an exit card. To enter, we open it for you from reception the first time. If you want to drive in and out more often, you need a barrier card. From 07:00 until 23:00 you can always drive in. Outside these times you may park the car at the front of the car park.
Dogs are tolerated
For every dog staying overnight with us, you pay €2 per night. A maximum of 2 dogs are allowed on each camping pitch. In addition, every dog visiting us must be kept on a lead and the owner must have dog waste bags with them to clean up after the dog. So the dog can come along, but we strongly ask that these rules are followed strictly to keep things pleasant for everyone.
De reception
Reservations
To avoid unpleasant surprises, it is a good idea to reserve with us in advance. This can be done both through our booking system on the website https://booking.campinghoutum.be/ and by email to
Checking in and out
All our guests are very welcome from 13:00 and you may stay until 12:00 on the day of departure. Thanks to these times, it is pleasant for all our campers.
Would you prefer to arrive earlier or stay longer? This is the question we receive most often every week by phone or email. Of course, we understand our enthusiastic guests who are very eager to start their holiday. However, we also have camping guests who themselves want to make the most of their stay and remain on their pitch for the full duration of their time.
That is why we at reception always say that we cannot guarantee anything in advance. Every camping guest is entitled to all of their hours on any camping pitch. Are the previous guests still on the field? Then we kindly ask the new guests to park.
While waiting, you can, for example, take
a beautiful walk along the Kleine Nete, have a drink in Café de Congé or already start a cycling trip.
And as a final advantage of using this system, in the morning we only have guests checking out and in the afternoon only guests checking in. In terms of traffic, this creates a kind of one-way street because the vehicles are all driving in the same direction.

Our reception:
Hedwige, Vic en Martiena
Would you still like to be 100% certain that you can arrive earlier or stay longer? Then book an extra night and you have complete freedom.
Tourist tax
Just like at all other campsites and hotels, you also pay tourist tax with us. The rate here is €0.80 per person per night.
Fantastic camping experience
A very beautiful campsite. Friendly welcome, very clean sanitary facilities. Lots of fun things to do for children at Domein de putten. The gnome walk on Kabouterberg is highly recommended.

Seasonal pitches
Every season we have campers who set up their caravan with awning for a maximum of six months. They may come here as often as they want during that period. In fact, they may even choose, for example, to go on holiday for 3 weeks with their caravan and then return again afterwards. In addition, only these campers may also leave their caravan here during the winter period for winter storage against payment. Their pitch will be used again by the same campers the following year, making this easy for them to use.
