Thanks to the extensive cycling junction netwerk of the Province of Antwerp, you can cycle tot your heart's content in the Kempen Region. We are located between node 87 and 88. Use the route generator to map out a route or ask the reception for the tips and themed routes.

Just like for cycling, there are also hiking nodes, hiking from number to number and determining how many kilometres you want to hike. We are located in the middle of the hiking network 'De Kempense Heuvelrug'. From the Nete valley to the sand dunes, from the fields to the forests, you will find absolutely everything here. We are located between the nodes 1, 20 and 69. Use the route generator to map out a route or ask the reception for the best tips.

De Kleine Nete (our river) is unique in Flanders: it is the only river where you can kayak en where no motorized transport is allowed. It is not a wild stream, but a quiet rippling river, ideal for a relaxed trip. For long trips, it is best to cycle to the Watermill of Retie and book a kayak at Kempen Kayaks. Or you can walk to our neighbour at 'Netherust' where you can also hire a 1-, 2- or 3-person kayak and sail up the Nete towards Retie and back. Reservations can be made via their website www.netherust.be . Open every day during the season.

The Kempen is known for the sandy soil in which 'De Kempenaar' (the original occupant) is rooted: a challenge for many a mountain biker. This has earned us mountain bike champions up to world level. Want to try it yourself? Then create your own route with this planner. Start at the Duineneind sports hall, less than a kilometre away.

Art cities

Do you want some culture in addition to all that natural beauty? Then visit the many great cities around Kasterlee.

The old Duchy of Brabant and the County of Flanders were the cultural, political and economic center of Europe in the full Middle Ages. Many remnants of this can still be found in the form of the numerous cities that sprang up at that time, such as Turnhout, Herentals, Lier, Mechelen, Antwerp, Brussels, Hasselt, ...

Kunststeden

Moreover, they are easily accessible by car or public transport. The public bus (line 490 Turnhout - Aarschot) takes you from the 'Venheide' stop on the Geelsebaan to the station of Geel or Turnhout. This bus stop is about 900m walking distance from Camping Houtum. Several trains depart daily from Geel and Turnhout throughout Flanders. Be sure to take a look at https://www.belgiantrain.be/en to check the hours of both train and bus services and buy a (return) ticket online. The choice is yours!
