Do you like to keep it sporty? Take a look at the following links to go to Houtum fully prepared:
Cycling is best done in Flanders, thanks to the network of nodes of the Province of Antwerp. We are located between junctions 87 and 88, use the route generator to map out a route or ask the reception for the best tips.
Just like for cycling, there are also walking junctions. We are located in the middle of the hiking network 'De Kempense Heuvelrug'. From the Nete valley to the sand dunes, from the fields to the forests, you will find absolutely everything here. We are located between junctions 20 and 69, use the route generator to map out a route or ask the reception for the best tips.
De Kleine Nete (our river) is unique in Flanders: it is the only watercourse where you can go canoeing but where no motorized transport is allowed. It is not a wild rippling stream, but a calm river, ideal for a relaxed trip. For long trips, it is best to cycle to the Watermill of Retie and book a kayak at Kempen Kayaks. Or rent a boat for an hour from our neighbor Netherust if you feel a little less adventurous. Open every day during the season.
De Kempen is known for the sandy soil on which this people is built. That brings us mountain bike champions to world level. Do you want to try it yourself? Then create your own route with this planner. You start at sports hall Duineneind, less than a kilometer from us.

Do you want some culture in addition to all that natural beauty? Then visit the many large cities around Kasterlee.
The old Duchy of Brabant and the County of Flanders were the cultural, political and economic center of Europe in the full Middle Ages. There are still many remnants of this in the form of the numerous cities that arose at that time. Turnhout, Herentals, Lier, Mechelen, Antwerp, Brussels, Hasselt, ...

Moreover, they are all perfectly accessible by car or public transport. A bus stop 300 meters from the entrance (line 490) will take you to Geel or Turnhout station. From there trains depart throughout Flanders, so the choice is yours!
