De Kleine Nete (our river) is unique in Flanders: it is the only river where you can kayak en where no motorized transport is allowed. It is not a wild stream, but a quiet rippling river, ideal for a relaxed trip. For long trips, it is best to cycle to the Watermill of Retie and book a kayak at Kempen Kayaks. Or you can walk to our neighbour at 'Netherust' where you can also hire a 1-, 2- or 3-person kayak and sail up the Nete towards Retie and back. Reservations can be made via their website . Open every day during the season.

The Kempen is known for the sandy soil in which 'De Kempenaar' (the original occupant) is rooted: a challenge for many a mountain biker. This has earned us mountain bike champions up to world level. Want to try it yourself? Then create your own route with this planner. Start at the Duineneind sports hall, less than a kilometre away.
