February is one of those months when everything slows down in the Kempen. The days are shorter, the air feels fresh and nature settles into a quieter rhythm. It is the perfect time for those who enjoy calm surroundings, open space and a stay without crowds.
The forests around Kasterlee have a different character in winter. Paths are quiet, sounds carry further and walking feels more intimate. February is not about full agendas or busy days, but about being outside, moving at your own pace and enjoying the simplicity of the season.
At Camping Houtum, winter camping in February is comfortable and well organised. We remain open during winter and make sure practical matters are taken care of, so you can focus on enjoying your stay. Coming back to the campsite after a walk or outing feels natural, even in the colder months.
In this article, you’ll read why February is such a pleasant month to camp in the Kempen and how you can combine winter camping with comfort at Camping Houtum.
Spring holiday
The spring holiday runs from Monday 16 to Sunday 22 February 2026 and is, for many campers, an ideal moment to take a short break. Not a long holiday, but enough time to step out of the daily routine and enjoy being together.
On the campsite, we notice that this week is often chosen by families who prefer a quieter atmosphere, as well as couples and regular guests who appreciate this period. Everything is open, but nothing feels busy. That makes camping during the spring holiday in February relaxed and easy.
If you like to explore, the surroundings invite you for walks or bike rides. If you prefer not to plan anything at all, you can simply stay on the campsite and enjoy the calm and open space.

Domein de Putten
Behind our campsite lies Domein de Putten. For many campers, this is not so much an outing as a natural extension of their stay. You can walk there easily and immediately find yourself in a place where young and old come together.
What used to be our second reception and the setting for many family gatherings has grown into a familiar part of Camping Houtum. For some guests it brings back memories, for others it quickly feels like a place they already know.
Also in winter, the domain remains open: every weekend, on Wednesday afternoons and every day during school holidays. That makes it an easy addition to your February stay. No long drives or planning, just step inside and return just as easily.
Valentine’s brunch
On Sunday 15 February 2026, Domein de Putten organises a Valentine’s brunch. Between 09:00 and 12:30, you can enjoy an extensive breakfast in a relaxed setting.
For our campers, this is a pleasant extra during a February stay. You can walk there comfortably, take your time at the table and enjoy a slow winter morning. A simple and warm way to start the day.
Reservations can be made via 014 85 92 15 or contact@domeindeputten.be.
On Saturday 21 February 2026, the event Winter Magic along the Kleine Nete takes place in Kasterlee. This is an atmospheric evening walk along a lit route beside the Kleine Nete, combined with music and a cosy winter atmosphere.
You can start the walk between 18:00 and 19:30, choosing a time slot in advance when registering. The route is approximately 3 km long. Along the water, the local soprano Ellen Vanherck provides musical moments that perfectly match the setting and add to the winter experience.
After the walk, you can continue to enjoy the evening at the winter bar at De Reep in Kasterlee, where the local band Vocal Force plays until midnight.
Participation is free, but registration in advance is required. After registering, you will receive the exact starting location of the walk. Parking is available at our campsite, within walking distance of the route. Coming by bike is also highly recommended.
A beautiful winter campsite
We did a lot of walking and cycling directly from the campsite, it is a beautiful region. We greatly appreciated the facilities on the campsite and at our camper pitch. Exceptionally good sanitary building, fully heated, which really makes this a true winter campsite. In short, definitely worth repeating.

Worth repeating
We went winter camping last weekend at Camping Houtum. It was great! Very nice that you can stand dry and clean in this weather. The welcome was very pleasant and our request to arrive earlier and leave a bit later was handled with great flexibility. Sanitary facilities were in perfect condition. They will certainly see me again. We will definitely try to come back.

Paved camping pitches
During the winter months, camping is only possible on paved pitches. These include our six fixed camper pitches, supplemented by five larger parking spaces that we specially prepare for winter use. This way, all pitches remain easily accessible, even when the weather is less favourable.
These pitches are suitable for both motorhomes and caravans and are all equipped with electricity. Many winter campers consciously choose this setup because everything is arranged in a practical way and the campsite remains quiet.
As the number of pitches is limited, we can work in a more personal way during winter. We take time for welcoming guests, think along where possible and try to remain flexible.
We recommend booking in advance, especially during the spring holiday. This way, you are assured
of a comfortable spot in the middle of nature, with the confidence that everything is well organised for a pleasant winter stay at Camping Houtum.
Or stay in our winter accommodations
Our accommodations are well insulated and heated, which makes them comfortable even on colder days. This makes them ideal for a short stay, a weekend away or a few days during the spring holiday.
What we often hear from guests staying in one of our accommodations in February is how pleasant it is to arrive calmly, warm up indoors and let the evening unfold naturally. Everything seems to slow down a little, which fits this period of the year perfectly.
Our winter accommodations are chosen by couples looking for peace and quiet, families who want to get away for a short break during the spring holiday, and regular guests who enjoy experiencing winter in a comfortable way.
Heated sanitary facilities
Comfort also remains important in February. That is why our sanitary building is fully heated during winter and adapted to the season.
During the winter months, we use our smaller sanitary building, located on the other side of the main building. It is just as close to the camping pitches as the other sanitary block and is easy to access. Here you will find everything together: showers and toilets, a washing machine and dryer, and a covered area for washing dishes.
Many of our winter campers indicate that this is one of the reasons they like staying with us in February. No cold spaces or temporary solutions, but a well-equipped sanitary facility that simply does what it needs to do.

February is not a month of big plans or full schedules. It is a period when everything moves a little slower, and because of that, certain things stand out more: the quiet on the campsite, the open space in nature and the small moments that arise naturally.
At Camping Houtum, we deliberately remain open in February. With paved camping pitches, heated sanitary facilities and winter accommodations, we provide comfort without losing the character of the season. No crowds, no excess, but a place where you can simply arrive and relax.
For regular campers, February feels familiar. For new guests, it is often a first introduction to the campsite in a different atmosphere than summer. Those who stay here in February understand it immediately.
